9:42PM - A quick update...

Since it's been a million years, here's a little about where I am now.  And maybe this is the start of me actually posting on LJ.  I dream, lol.
I am loving life as an intern at the New England Aquarium.  I take care of 13 three month old anacondas (and their parents), 3 arawanas, some piranahs, and a whole bunch of other cool stuff in the fresh water gallery.  I have fallen off the Criminal Intent fan fiction wagon for the moment.  And Joss Whedon ate my brain.  I always swore I would never read or write Buffy fan fiction.  Oooops.  Of course, 6 years ago I was swearing I would never watch the show.  Ce La Vie.  Damn you Joss, you've made me a bigger geek than ever.  Now I have to go to the comic book store 2 times a month lest I miss out on Buffyverse comics.

That's the really short version.  Maybe I'll post the long version sometime.  It does involve writing and also meeting Joss Whedon, so maybe I will at some point.

9:21PM - Science Girl

I am the new summer intern for the Science Museum of Virginia. They were impressed with my resume and are letting write my own internship at the museum. Its awesome and Americorps will still be paying me for the summer so yay!
But what about after...
I am hoping to go through several internships in the Science Museum field before settling down to grad school in museum studies or biology or some such. And I'm sure I'll be looking for scholarships for that too....
I have been researching grants that might help me while I take unpaid internships. What I have learned so far: I would have a much easier time finding money to support my endeavor if that endeavor was to be a Christian Missionary or if I had a PHD and was doing some form of research. I did make a little progress though, so it wasn't a wasted (if boring) 3 hours of reading grant books. More of that tomorrow. Oh goodie!

6:14PM - Hello out there...

With the networks fearing a writer's strike this year...
Anyone know how to get spec scripts out there?
(I could so write one for Criminal Intent... or SVU, truth be told)

3:02PM - Science Girl, Story Girl.

I just got back a little while ago from another overnight at the Science Museum of VA. These are my favorite volunteer jobs ever. I love it there.

Updates to the Site:
- added an index page for my photo pages
- added a photo tribute to my work at the Science Museum (available through "My Life in Pictures")
-added "You know you're obsessed with LOCI when..." page (and I am seeking submissions)
-updated the "size 13 shoes" page
-added a cafepress.com store (but don't buy anything yet, I'm not satisfied with my pictures)

I've been working on "An Ordinary Family" and I should be posting the first installment tomorrow. I'll be posting weekly for a while, at least on that story, until I can get ahead of the curve.

What I learned: Sometimes the obvious answer is the answer (ie. why seek software to visually track your word count when you can do it with an easy spreadsheet and graph, and I should have thought of this months ago.); Truly nice people do exist; You can make a nifty kazoo/harmonica thingie from two tongue depressors, two rubber ands, and two small strips of construction paper; My mom will never understand my need to collect DVDs and books, because collecting stories is a foreign concept for her. She never gives a book a second read and she rarely watches a movie twice; I'm getting too old to stay up all night.

12:23PM - Hooray for Size 13 Shoes!

The "size 13 Shoes" campaign is working!!!
If you google size 13 shoes the NBC LOCI page is on the first page of results. Soon it will be the first result! YAY!

Current mood: geeky

9:44PM - Weekend Report

So I got to maybe 4k words done (some of which was piecing together notes). And I slept a lot. On the upside the cold seems to finally be on the way out, which should certainly help. I did get some outlining done and figured out some case files. I'm going to try to write at least 2 hours a night next week.
What I learned: That AirBorne anti cold stuff seems to work.

5:20PM - Ah, Goals...

My goal for the weekend is to write the first 15k words on "An Ordinary Family" and fully plot out the first case.
Steep undertaking, but I'm feeling better and inspired.
Things I learned today: Nolan, a guy I work with, is the hotness... or thats what he keeps saying. Sex offender registry map of richmond looks like it has a really bad case of the chicken pox. Enough to freak me out.

Current mood: creative

11:10PM - Updates...

I updated my mini bio on the site. And in 9 hours I will post the last chapter (sans epilogue) of the longest story I have ever written. Exhilarating, and also, sad.
What I learned: You can't predict what some people will think you capable of. Colds suck. And I get way too distracted by my stats page. I need to refocus.

Current mood: frustrated

10:23AM - I hate being sick.

I'm still sick and it sucks. I have been working on a scene by scene outline of "An Ordinary Family" and it's going pretty well.
What I learned: You can embed LJ onto your website. HTML is overrated. Fever + Writing = stories that make very little sense.

Current mood: sick

12:56AM - The First Post

Marion the Geek has a LJ now! (I had one before, but this one is specifically for the page). I'm giving myself a crash course in site development. So far, so good.
